An Introduction

Hello! My name is Freya Daws and the purpose of this blog is to record everything I find out which is in any way related to my passion for medicine and, to start with at least, my quest in gaining a place at medical school. Hopefully this will give me some direction in research and documentation of everything relevant I find, as well as being a bit of fun, maybe even interesting for you to read!

I have wanted to study medicine for a very long time firstly and foremost because I feel I was made for nothing but to be a doctor. There is nothing else that would satisfy my yearning for the pleasure of helping someone, not just physically but mentally too - I believe that doctors should leave their patient feeling better in every possible way so even if a patient cannot be helped physically, they can still leave your care feeling better than they did when they came into it. Not just that, but also the complete integration of science and people skills is absolutely unique, especially when combined with the detective skills a doctor is required to use on a day to day basis. I would never get tired of such a varied and exciting career.

I am also totally passionate about everything about the human body, how it works, why, and what happens when things go wrong. I'm especially interested about how it can be fixed! I think modern medicine is incredible  how seemingly inane things such as pills can do things so dramatic as repressing the symptoms of Parkinson's disease so much so that it is barely noticeable, with only some comparably mild side effects such as low blood pressure and a dry mouth. Having to constantly learn throughout my entire career also attracts me to medicine as I love learning new things. Being a doctor, arguably one of the most important parts of the job is to keep up to date with current research and what new medications are being introduced. I love to do that already so it definitely appeals to me, but hopefully I will understand it a bit more once I am a doctor!

So that's a brief insight into why I would love a career in medicine, and I plan to keep you updated on everything related to medicine in my life as regularly as possible.
